Not me! Let's just make that clear from the get-go. I helped host a baby shower this past weekend for a friend. I decided on an owl theme. Why? Because I've been looking for a good reason to make these
owl cupcakes.
You might be wondering . . . why have a baby shower for someone who already has 3 children? Because her youngest was a baby 15 years ago! I think the woman deserves a party. Even if she did keep her baby things all those years, who wants to dress their 2011 baby in 1995 clothes? If only a little more time had passed . . . those 90's baby clothes might be in style again soon.
Since the shower was at my house, I got to be in charge of decorating. Lucky for me, all of the fall and Thanksgiving decorations went on sale after Halloween. I also used a lot of rocks and pine cones. Those cute little owls are from Michael's. They wouldn't stand up on their own, so I used a napkin ring as a "nest."
I'm not a big fan of those baby shower games where you put chocolate bars in diapers or sample baby food. We asked all the guests to bring a baby picture and played Whoo's the Baby? And for prizes--carmel apples! Which I kept calling carmel owl-ples, much to everyone's chagrin. I attached a bow and a cute owl ornament (they come in a box of 3 for $5.00 at Target). If we were playing Whoo was the Chubbiest Baby, I would have won!
We sent everyone home with a bag of this delicious, sweet
snack mix. Don't make it unless you plan to give it away or eat all of it yourself. It's addicting.
I don't think I've ever hosted a baby shower before. It was fun getting together with old friends (by which I mean people who have been friends for a long time, not people who are old). Not to mention, it was a good excuse to make cupcakes and buy fall decorations.
