THEY'RE SMARTER THAN THEY LOOK

A certain prompt caught my eye over at Mama's Losin' It this week.  "They’re smarter than they look! Write about a time your child was on to you."

Well, if we're being honest, this happens to me all the time.  But I had to look no further than the past weekend for the most recent example.

This isn't the most recent picture of C, but it's very effective for convincing everyone that he keeps us on our toes!

A few days ago C, who is well known for getting the best of us, plopped himself on the floor to watch television, giant blue bubble gum-filled sucker in hand.

His father, in an attempt to avoid a sticky blue mess on the carpet, told him, "You can't sit there and eat that."

He sprung to his feet and replied, "Then I'll stand here and eat it."

Curses!  Foiled by an 8 year-old again!

MY FIVE BEST (IMAGINARY) FRIENDS

Admit it, sometimes you wish your favorite characters from television, books and movies were real people.  And that they were your next door neighbors.  Well, thanks to the writer's workshop at Mama's Losin' It, I get to share 5 fictional friends I'd want in real life.....

First, Frankie Heck from television's The Middle.  She reminds me of myself so much it's not even funny.  Well actually, it's hilarious.  The episode where she ate her son's toenail clippings from the almost empty potato chip bag?  It was powerful.  Really powerful.  So powerful, in fact, that my husband used it as an educational resource on "How Not to Treat Your Mother".   Seriously.   He sat our three sons down and made them watch it.  I assure you, they will never clip their toenails into the potato chip bag.

How can you not love a woman whose philosophy on feeding the family is "As long as you heat it up at home, it's homemade."

Second, Leslie Knope from Parks and Recreation.  Because we all need a friend who will help us keep our priorities straight......"we have to remember what’s important in life: friends, waffles, and work. Or waffles, friends, and work. But work has to come third."   As a friend of Leslie Knope, I would totally be okay with being priority number two.  Waffles need to come first sometimes.

Third, Obi-Wan Kenobi (the Ewan McGregor version). Do I really need to explain the benefits of having a Jedi Knight for a best friend? For starters, as a best friend he'd have to let you borrow his clothes and weapons for awesome Halloween costumes for your children.

Fourth, Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters.  Technically, he is not a fictional character, but he is a fictional fighter of Foo, so I think that counts.  Along the same lines as a Jedi Knight friend, I think we all need a friend who can fight Foo.  Also, he could get you backstage passes to lots of sweet concerts.

Last but least, Martha Stewart.  I realize it would be a difficult friendship.  You could never invite Martha over to your house because she would be totally judgemental of your fake plants and Lazy-Boy recliner.  But it would be totally worth it for all the amazing dinner parties you would get invited to.
